navigating a world which feels like gravity is working in reverse

One interesting thing about me is I have to read everything at least twice to comprehend it.  In the early days of the internet back when we had slow modem connections some images would load progressively.  So a JPEG would be blurry at first but on second load come into focus (Facebook pictures do this sometimes even today if you’re on a dodgy connection).  This is the best analogy I could come up with.

I think most people don’t fully comprehend what they read the first time, unless they spend a lot of time reading it. In some cases I’ll reread things and get new understanding of them every time. I do that with old, favorite books, and sometimes it’s as simple as getting a joke I didn’t understand years ago, or as complicated as knowing a word I didn’t before and that changing my understanding of a whole character.

Things as complicated as the classics, especially, mean I won’t understand things the first time. I think when it comes to movies or real life interactions, I replay things in my brain until they make more sense, or until I come to some kind of conclusion about them.
